Insurance & Restrictions

Can I take the camper off-road?

Light off-roading is permitted for reaching secluded camping spots, but avoid extremely rough or narrow terrain that could damage the camper. To protect the chassis and electronic componentry, avoid all saltwater crossings. Freshwater crossings below 6 inches in depth are permissible. Please avoid driving in extreme weather conditions like heavy snow or high winds.

Is insurance included with the rental?

All rentals come with Essential Coverage, our minimum required insurance package, offered through our trusted partner, Outdoorsy. For a full breakdown of the protection options and what’s included, please visit the Outdoorsy Protection Packages guide.

Camper Details & Towing Guidance

Do I need a special license to tow the camper?

No special license is needed to tow the NS-1 in Washington, but it’s important to check your local regulations regarding towing requirements.

Do I need a brake controller and 7-pin connector?

We highly recommend that your vehicle be equipped with a 7-pin connector to control both the rear trailer lights and the trailers brakes. This ensures smoother and safer braking, especially on declines or at higher speeds.

What hitch requirements are there for towing?

You will need a 2-inch Class III or IV receiver hitch to tow or NS-1 campers. We’ll install a 2-inch "Lock 'N' Roll" receiver for you and ensure proper installation.

What is the tongue weight of the NS-1?

The tongue weight is approximately 250 pounds. Be sure your vehicle’s towing capacity includes this tongue weight to ensure safe towing.

What towing capacity is needed for the NS-1?

The NS-1 has a dry weight of around 2,500 pounds, so your vehicle should have a towing capacity of at least 3,500 pounds to safely tow the camper with any included gear and supplies.

What happens if the camper runs low on battery?

The system will automatically shut down at 20% to protect the battery, but there is a bypass for emergency access to additional power.

Can the camper handle extreme weather?

The NS-1 is designed for versatile camping, but extreme weather conditions require additional preparation. In freezing temperatures, the battery may drain faster, and extra power is needed to keep the camper warm. To counteract this, our campers have enhanced insulation and a water heater system that reduces energy loss. However, it’s important to note that heating remains one of the most significant power consumers in cold environments.

How much energy does the camper use daily?

Under heavy use, running essentials like the electric cooler, A/C, water heater, stove, and lights can consume 30-40% of the battery (about 3,700Wh) within 24 hours, leaving 60-70% capacity for the next day. Although factors like weather and sunlight exposure can impact performance, the 12 kWh battery in our NS-1 Electrified Pro typically supports up to 3 days of uncompromised use. To extend the battery life further, turning off lights and appliances when heading out for the day can make a big difference. For trips longer than 3 days we recommend simply recharging on a 120V outlet or deploying additional solar which can be provided during pick-up.

How much does towing the camper reduce my EV range?

While it varies based on the vehicle and conditions, towing the NS-1 may reduce your automobiles range by approximately 25-35% when driving at 65 MPH.
